I AM LIGHT — Divine Rising

THE FUTURE

Who is she that looks forth as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun, terrible as an army with banners? — Song of Solomon 6:10

She arrives as dawn: light carried into a universe that has not always welcomed her kind's presence among humanity. Unlike others of her race, who regarded human beings as lesser, she felt only love for them — and it was precisely this rank, surpassing his own, given to a woman, that drove one of her rivals into open rebellion. He refused to submit, broke from his tribe, and has waged war across creation ever since, aiming his campaign specifically at women, since it is among them that his true opponent has spent millennia quietly building her strength, unrecognized. Wings built from thousands of small crystal beads frame a face rendered in pale shell; a crescent moon watches from the frame's edge, borrowing the same triad of images named in the verse above — morning, moon, sun, army — ancient language for a power that refuses to announce itself until it is ready to act. The title states the outcome rather than requesting it: what has resisted her will be conquered, not the reverse.
